A double from Adam Marriott helped CRC claim all three points at the expense of visiting Mildenhall Town.
Luke Berry added a third from the spot as hosts CRC became only the second side this season to prevent Mildenhall finding the net.
The first chance of the afternoon fell to CRC’s Rory McAuley but he curled wide from close range after Mildenhall goalkeeper Josh Pope narrowed the angle smartly.
In what proved to be a rare Mildenhall attack John Sands displayed great determination to get beyond Lewis Carr and pull the ball back for Steve Harley. However, the striker failed to connect cleanly from the edge of the area and the danger was soon cleared.
Marriott struck his first of the match after 17 minutes. Pope showed great reflexes to deny Blaine Hudson’s header, but Marriott was alert to the rebound and he bundled the ball in on the goal line.
Fresh from going a goal to the good CRC were now exerting a vast amount of pressure and Pope had to be at his very best to deny Hudson and Marriott from doubling their side’s advantage.
The visitors managed to keep CRC at bay for the remainder of the half, but just three minutes into the second period Marriott claimed his second.
Left winger Owen Kessack found space and crossed low for Marriott whose first shot was blocked by Mildenhall skipper Dave Werthman, but at the second attempt the CRC marksman guided his effort beyond Pope.
The situation deteriorated further for Mildenhall after 70 minutes when midfielder Kyle Parish tripped Marriott as he skipped inside the box. Berry took responsibility from the spot and calmly sent Pope the wrong way to put the game beyond Simon Charlton’s Mildenhall.
The home side had chances to extend the lead further but both Jack Bailey and Liam Hughes were wasteful when presented with decent chances.
As the match entered stoppage time Mildenhall’s Aaron Turner was brought down on the edge of the box and Harley’s goal bound free kick was well saved by CRC keeper Martin Davies. |
