Mildenhall Town breezed past visiting Kings Lynn Reserves with a resounding 4-1 victory at Recreation Way.
Hosts Mildenhall took a one goal lead into the break, and despite Lynn reserves drawing level in the second half, the result never really looked in doubt.
The goal that gave Mildenhall a half-time advantage was scored by midfielder David Cooper, who cleverly turned the ball home at the back post after Jamie Thurlbourne’s cross appeared to have evaded everyone.
The home side should have had the points sealed by the time Jordan Penty popped up inside a crowded a penalty to haul Lynn back level following a goalmouth scramble.
Despite the setback Mildenhall kept their heads and were back in front soon after through substitute John Sands. The striker neatly exchanged passes with Carl Murkin before shimmying past two defenders and then guiding the ball into the bottom hand corner of the net.
However, the afternoon ended sourly for Sands. Five minutes after firing his side in front the forward had to be replaced following the reoccurrence of a thigh injury picked up two weeks ago at Dereham.
Sands’ injury allowed Aaron Turner the chance to stake a claim for a starting role, and the former Soham Town Rangers man didn’t disappoint.
The substitute first found the net from 10 yards, burying past the Lynn goalkeeper after superb work from Luke Thurlbourne down the right wing, before showing great composure to beat the advancing keeper when put through one-on-one. |
